Inventions Competition 2023-2024 (Age 5 & 6)

04 January 2024

Dear Parents,
For this final term, we are embarking on our third Project-Based Learning, namely Inventions. The children will delve into the fascinating world of inventors who have left a positive mark on our lives. Here are some examples:

– The Wright Brothers, pioneers of aviation, invented and built the world’s first successful powered airplane, forever changing the way we travel.
– Frank Epperson is credited with the invention of the popsicle, a sweet treat enjoyed by people of all ages, especially during hot summer days.
– Leslie Scott’s creation, Jenga, has become a globally popular game, showcasing the power of simplicity and strategy in entertainment.
– Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, revolutionized technology with the introduction of iconic products like the iPhone and iPad, transforming the way we communicate and access information.

Throughout this project, our students will engage in hands-on exploration, fun play, art and craft, science experiments, math, and literacy sessions inspired by these remarkable inventors. TJC is proud to organize an “Inventions that Make My World Better” competition for Age 5 & 6 students. We hope that you and your child can collaborate to create or invent something and showcase the prototype, model, or item. The inventions will be showcased on the 3rd of February 2024 during the Parents – Teachers’ Meeting. The following are the mechanics of this competition:

(a.) Form a team of inventors among family members. One entry per student.
(b.) Provide a brief summary (not more than 30 words) of your invention (e.g., a description, sketch, or mini prototype).
(c.) Judging criteria are based on originality, how the invention would make my world better, homemade (DIY), creativity, and idea generation. Teachers and parents attending the PTM will vote for their favourite inventions based on the criteria stated above.
(d.) The winner of the prize (1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize) will be announced and awarded to the student on the 6th of February 2024.
(e.) You may submit your invention to your child’s class teacher from 29th January to 2nd February.

Entry for the competition is not compulsory, but we highly encourage all students to participate to learn and discover hidden talents. We aim to foster bonding between family members and promote discussions and involvement among family members in this project. So, parents, let’s put on our thinking caps, draw, discuss, and create together with the children!

Regards,
Rachael and Age 5 & 6 Team of Teachers
